VIRUS PROTECTION
A computer that's not running a virus protection
software is asking for trouble.
Your computer(s) should be loaded with either Norton Antivirus or McAffee VirusScan.
You can scan your computer now using this online
tool provided by Symantec.
BACKUP YOUR DATA
When was the last time you backed up your personal
data on your computer?
If your harddrive were to fail, how much work would you lose?
You might be thinking "That's not goign to happen
to me, I've got a pretty new computer !?"
Don't kid yourself - be prepared and avoid the aggravation.
Backup your data at least once a month (if not more
often) to a CD or DVD diskette.
Small business owners should consider backing up your data daily to tape media using
software such as Veritas
Backup Exec.
FIREWALL PROTECTION
If you have a high-speed connection to the Internet,
you should have a hardware firewall device to protect your computer from attacks. Most
Cable/DSL routers come equipped with a built-in firewall; make sure yours is activated and
properly configured so that your computer is non-addressable to the outside world.
If you don't have a hardware firewall, at least
consider using a software option such as the free ZoneAlarm product from Zone Labs or a paid
version of Norton
Symantec Personal Firewall.
